INTERMAG General Assembly

Rome

September 30 / October 1, 2005

Draft: Proposed Minutes

  1. Opening of the Meeting

Mariolina Bronzini (RAI), INTERMAG President, welcomed the participants.

2. Approval of the „Proposed Minutes“ of the General Assembly Berlin, November 2004

3. Election of President/Vice President

The actual board has been re elected for a two year period

4. Membership

  1. Leave Intermag 2005:

Format has been changed and is no more compatible

The programme gave up membership since it has no exchange partners

  1. New members

  1. Changes among members: New Titles, Formats, Contacts etc.

MTV/"World View" changed its name again into “Panorama ”

  1. Acquiring new members:

BNT (Bulgaria)

LRT (Lithuania)

LTV (Latvia)

ETV (Estonia)

CZECH-TV (Czech Republic)

STV (Slovak Republic)

TVP (Poland)

The reaction was rather poor. Only Lithuanian TV showed an interest. But there again, the opinion was that it is too soon for membership. Furthermore possible new members seem reluctant to come to the meetings. Personal contact seems crucial, otherwise there is no response. This could be the way to proceed: make contact and then ask the CC or the President to send out the promotape.

It could also be useful to organise a meeting in a location near these members and invite them there. For next year we could concentrate on the Baltic states and hold the General Assembly for instance in Vilnius, inviting Latvian and Estonian magazines, perhaps also some Scandinavian ones.

Gerhard Losher renewed contacts with Swiss and Austrian TV. They left INTERMAG a few years ago because they found the handling was too complicated. Also they complained about the excessive ordering of some of the members without bringing in interesting items. They would consider membership if the sending of items is not mandatory. Mariolina Bronzini pointed out that a certain imbalance is typical for INTERMAG, every programme has its clients. On the other hand it isn’t mandatory to offer every item, but those offered in the exchange should be given. We cannot accept that members are discriminated.

5. INTERMAG Programme Exchange System (PES)

  1. PES:

A final decision on the PES was postponed to this year, since the three year contract ends in June 2006. Although some of the attendants like the system, it obviously doesn't fulfil its purpose. Do we all want to continue spending money (1500 € per member programme) on a system, that only serves few. And seemingly it doesn’t attract members, on the contrary, programmes leave.

Keeping the PES without uploading pictures is no financial alternative. And there is no possibility to furtherly lower the costs.

Disadvantage: if we abolish the system we have no database. But on the other hand, items older than two years are never taken.

In order to have some kind of communication it was suggested to design a formsheet that can be filled out by every member and sent around to the others by e-mail. It would contain all necessary information. These forms should also be sent to the CC where they can be stored and function as a database.

The Intermag fee now goes to the PES. It was suggested that each member-programme pays a yearly fee of 500 €. With that money we could organise our meetings abroad.

(b) Voting:

There was an unanimous vote to abolish the PES

There was also an unanimous vote on 500 € fee per year.

The account should stay with Deutsche Welle, since they host the CC.

Gerd Lemmens will consult the legal department of DW about ending the contract. Until the end of this year it would be maintained. The new system would be implemented as from January.

(c) Website:

Deutsche Welle can host the INTERMAG Website , we should keep it for advertisement purposes. The General Assembly decided it should be updated with a brief description of every member programme and a link to the different members. Every member should send about 15 lines to the CC.

6. Next Meeting

There is no invitation yet for the General Assembly 2006. Vilnius is considered as a good location for the next meeting. Udo Biss will look into this matter and inform the CC.
