INTERMAG General Assembly Brussels September 26 - 27, 2014 |
Friday, September 26, 2014 Start: 14.00 / End: ±17.00
1. Opening of the General Assembly
Gerhard Losher (BR) welcomed the attendants.
Especially Helena Milinkovic who represented the program Globus of Slovenian TV
for which she works as an editor and presenter. This 30’ current affairs
program is aired every Tuesday. It contains 3 to 4 items up to 4 minutes on
foreign affairs, mostly political. In order to fill her in there was a
presentation round.
2. Approval of the ”Proposed Minutes”
The
Minutes of the General Assembly 2013 in Vienna were approved.
3. Interested Programmes
Spanish TV: Adriana Dergam/Czech TV informed us of a contact
with TVE. They would be looking for a suitable program to join the exchange. In
order to show them the variety of what the INTERMAG members have to offer
Adriana took a DVD with several items that were shown during the screening. She
had an appointment in Madrid beginning of October and would keep the presidency
posted.
Allan remarked that Spanish
TV orders many items from SVT.
Kathrin Lemke said that
Euromaxx screens half a dozen programs from all over Europe for Lifestyle items. With some of these programs they have
special conditions: 1000 € per piece and a possibility to shorten them to 4’
without additional costs.
4. Membership
5. Election presidency
Udo Biss/NDR sadly would
like to resign as vice-president for personal reasons but also to give younger
members a chance to join the presidency. Next year new elections are due. Kathrin Lemke was elected unanimously and accepted
to step up for one year.
6. Future of
INTERMAG
First
of all a fee of 500,00 € will have to be paid by every
member as from 2015. The magazine hosting the CC would receive 1000,00 € and would be free from paying the fee.
Concerning INTERMAG itself it
is the victim of major changes with Deutsche Welle. First of all the new
General Managing Director Peter Limbourg announced at the start of his position
that the station will become a mainly English news channel as from April 2015.
This entails a whole list of structural, logistical and staff related changes.
One of the consequences is that most of the magazines will be produced in Bonn
including Europa Aktuell which also changes its name into Fokus Europa / Focus
on Europa from October on. Due to the relocation of the magazine Studio
Brussels where both the magazine and the CC were resident for many years has no
call for INTERMAG anymore and the new Head of Office canceled the agreement
between INTERMAG and Studio Brussels after 2015. As convened in the Memorandum
of Understanding of 2012 Studio Brussels will fulfill the contract until the
end of 2015. After that date INTERMAG has to find a new host for the CC. The
two Deutsche Welle members Fokus Europa
and Euromaxx want to stay in INTERMAG
and they might be good candidates for the CC. But at the moment they are in
such an upheaval that they cannot assess the effect of hosting the CC on their
workflow. Mid 2015 both programs have a better view on their possibilities
especially concerning staff.
To make the hosting of the
CC more manageable there was a discussion on how to minimize its workload. It
was suggested to split up the tasks of the CC.
SVT offered to organize the 2015 meeting in Stockholm still with assistance of the actual CC.
Still: bottom line is that at
this point Deutsche Welle cannot guarantee the continuation of the CC. In 2015
a solution hopefully will be found.
